Wetsuits for Kids - Why Do Your Children Need Thermal Protection?

PROTECTING THE SKIN AND PROVIDING APPROPRIATE TEMPERATURE FOR CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS IN THE WATER

Children love water. Water amazes and invites exploration, making their world bigger and more exciting. Playing in the water is not only fun, but it's also good for them. The more they play in the water, the more opportunities we adults have to teach them water safety rules and introduce them to aquatic environments. Getting kids out of the house promotes the health of these small bodies and minds. And besides, playing in the water is great entertainment for the whole family. Our love for water develops early and we never really outgrow it... I'm talking to you, future divers.

It is in the nature of children to play in and explore water, but it is our duty to protect them from all dangers. We don't go anywhere, we follow safety rules, we teach them to swim and float, but we often overlook one thing - protection from temperature, sun, and bruises. When the water is cold, a wetsuit for children may seem like an obvious solution, but it will also prove to be a great idea in warmer water for the following reasons.

WHY CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS SHOULD WEAR WETSUITS:
  • Wetsuits for Children Prevent Heat Loss: Remember the times when as a child you wanted to play in the sea. Even when the water was ice-cold, you didn't care at all - you were going to jump among the waves anyway. Playing in the water is so exciting for children that there is a risk they won't notice they are cold. Without a wetsuit, even slight hypothermia can quickly turn into real hypothermia. This can happen even in tropical waters. Unless the water is actually the same temperature as the body (average 36.6 degrees Celsius), heat loss will always occur. A wetsuit allows you to insulate your child's small body from the surrounding waves. It will allow children to play safely (and comfortably) in the water for as long as you let them.
  • Wetsuits for Children Protect Against Stings: Water temperature is not the only thing that can quickly turn a pleasant day at the sea into a very bad one. A jellyfish that just happens to be swimming nearby can sting children who don't notice it. There are really many different small creatures that sting and bite and can damage exposed skin. Playing among the waves, snorkeling or diving deeper underwater can also lead to abrasions and bruises. Wetsuits not only insulate children from the cold, but also protect them from the dangers posed by the aquatic environment.
  • Wetsuits for Children Protect them from Solar Radiation: We can consider ourselves lucky if our parents applied sunscreen to us when we went to play in the yard as children. Today we already know how much the sun can harm delicate skin. However, sunscreens wash off and lose their properties while playing in the water and need to be reapplied frequently. Wetsuits for children, even the thinnest BARE wetsuits, protect delicate skin from the effects of sunlight without the use of any chemical agents. Not only will children be able to play longer and better, but they will also thank you for it when they grow up.
  • Wetsuits for Children Make it Easier to Float: Wetsuits for children will not replace a real life jacket or swimming lessons, but thicker models will make it a little easier to float. The additional buoyancy will be helpful for older children who are learning to snorkel, as it will make floating on the surface a little easier. The thicker the wetsuit, the greater the buoyancy. If you are looking for something that will really make it easier for babies learning to swim to float.
WETSUITS: FROM INFANT TO TEENAGER

A wetsuit works by heating the water that gets trapped between the body and the inside of the foam suit. The less water flows into and out of the wetsuit, the more warmth for your child. Buying a larger size that will still fit the child when they grow up is tempting, but a loose wetsuit will not work as it should. When fitting a child for a wetsuit, it should be snug against the body and leave very little free space. Rash guards protect against abrasions and sun exposure, but wearing them under a wetsuit will weaken its effect. When putting on a wetsuit, your child should first take off their t-shirt.

Infant Wetsuits: When children are about two years old, they become more independent in the water and want to spend more time exploring it. This age is a good time to start dressing a child in a wetsuit, as it will provide protection from the sun, give warmth, and prevent abrasions and bruises if the child is not yet walking very steadily.
  • 1mm Guppy Shorty: A short 1.5mm neoprene wetsuit provides UV protection and slightly warms the body without restricting movement. Designed for warm tropical water and pools.
  • 1mm Dolphin Floaty: The Dolphin Floaty wetsuit provides UV protection, warmth, and buoyancy, all in one suit. It has built-in panels that make it easier to float, which can be removed when your child is already good at swimming. This children's wetsuit is ideal for infants learning to swim.
  • 2mm Tadpole Shorty: The Tadpole Shorty is the ideal wetsuit for playing among the waves. It provides 2mm of neoprene warmth, and the BARESKIN chest part wicks away water, and also protects against wind and abrasions and bruises.
Wetsuits for Children and Teenagers: Children and teenagers are more active in the water, so they need better protection. BARE's long and short wetsuits for children are durable and designed to keep them warm for as long as possible.
  • 2mm Manta Shorty: The Manta Shorty has a durable construction, a BARESKIN chest part with 2mm neoprene, thus providing protection against the sun and bruises, as well as warmth. This wetsuit is ideal for playing in warm seas.
  • 3/2mm Manta Full: This youth wetsuit is 3mm thick in the part covering the torso and 2mm in the part covering the arms and legs. It provides full-body protection without restricting freedom of movement. It is ideal for spending long hours on water sports in warm waters.
  • 5/4mm Manta Full: A long wetsuit, 5mm thick in the part covering the torso and 4mm thick in the part covering the arms and legs. Perfectly suited for medium temperature water.
  • 7/6 mm Manta Full: When the water gets cold, make sure your little water lover doesn't get cold thanks to the 7/6MM Manta Full wetsuit. It has additional features to provide warmth, so it is ideal for spending many hours surfing, snorkeling or deep sea diving.
